Landscape video to Shorts: crop or keep the whole picture?

Crop fills a portrait frame by discarding the sides. Contain keeps the whole picture and adds background space. Resizing alone cannot fill a different aspect ratio, preserve every edge and avoid distortion at once.

Portrait to landscape video without stretching people

Contain keeps the full portrait picture with background on either side. Crop fills the landscape frame but removes top and bottom content. Stretching width separately makes people look wider.

YouTube Shorts aspect ratio, three-minute rule and file formats

Shorts is a YouTube category, not a special file extension. Aspect ratio and duration affect classification; MP4, MOV and WebM describe file formats.
